A new study shows that a pill is the best treatment for erectile dysfunction and the most effective way to improve your sexual health.
The study, published in theJournal of Sexual Medicine, will examine whether sildenafil, marketed by Pfizer as Viagra, is more effective than Pfizer’s other drugs in improving erectile function.
It’s designed to be an experimental study, but researchers have found it’s also the best treatment for the problem.
The drug, sold under the brand name Revatio, was approved in 1998 by the FDA. The drug was originally tested as an erection test for men, but the Food and Drug Administration approved it in 2003 as an “off-label” treatment for enlarged prostates.
The study compared Viagra to two other medications that are known for their ability to improve blood flow and erections.
Viagra, which is the active ingredient in the drug, works by relaxing the blood vessels, a common way for blood to flow.
“This is an exciting new area of medicine,” said Dr. R. Richard Thompson, a Pfizer researcher who is also a senior researcher at the University of Toronto. “This is a real breakthrough for men who have been taking this medicine for years.”
